In our world of globalisation, actual boundaries are progressively vanishing. The phenomenon of “Region Branding”, on the other hand, is currently creating new opportunities for regional identification with poignant slogans, dreamy images and local delicacies. Gastronomic ‘Regions of Delight’ aimed at tourists are springing up everywhere. In the “Mostviertel” (cider region) a particular kind of pear has been turned into a unique selling point – around which themed events and tourismstrategies are based. The transMost installation is a fictitious pipeline pumping the sought-after beverage directly through to Vienna, so rescuing the whole of that area from the burden of its carefully placed regional brand. |
