unannounced intervention in Hikkaduwa
In a European perspective the on and off going streetlights are always somehow remote controlled and therefore out of one’s perception. You only notice when they are for any reason out of order. Passersby putting the lights on in public space when it’s getting dark as a self responsible but common act is something we are not used to anymore. By discovering the handling of the street lightning in Hikkaduwa we thought that the single lights could also be used for transmitting messages. So we sampled the ABC in Hikkaduwa by using simple morse codes and therefore putting the lights on and off. This on and off also refers to the local power blackouts that happen all of a sudden.
